Usually Christmas was a sad time for Ruby because she would remember all the good times she had with her family out through the years. Now they were all gone and she really missed them. So after Becky came they had fun singing all the old time songs together. They made a good duet; Ruby sang the low notes and Becky sang the high ones. One day we thought it would be a good idea to put the music and her stories together and send it out to Ruby’s friends as a Christmas tape. They already had the recorder and could turn it on any time. I enjoyed listening to the two songbirds and what good therapy it was for Ruby. If they didn’t like something it could always be erased and they would do it again. I called them “The Late Bloomers” and they had lots of fun. It kept them busy for a few months. Eventually we sent out about 30 tapes and her friends were real happy to get them. Some called to thank her and others came in person to tell them how good they were. Next, Becky had a big Christmas party for friends and neighbors and they sang together again. Becky could play the piano and yodel. To top it off we had a wonderful Christmas dinner. Then we went back home, in the rain, holding onto our umbrellas. That was a happy time for everyone. Miss Muriel |
